IS-vid was a twenty week free on-ice experience for individuals who experienced visual impairment or deaf-blindness, aged five years plus (Primary Skaters).

IS-vid was available to Primary Skaters resident in the Local Authorities of:

  • Blaenau Gwent

  • Bridgend

  • Caerphilly

  • Cardiff

  • Merthyr Tydfil

  • Neath Port Talbot

  • Newport

  • Rhondda Cynon Taf

  • Swansea

  • Torfaen

IS-vid provided free on-ice experiences for a Companion Skater who was a care giver, friend or family member of each Primary Skater.

IS-vid was a free to participate, feasibility project and ran between April

and November 2024 at the Vindico Arena, Cardiff Bay.  Sessions were

delivered by experienced freelance ice coaches who were registered with British Ice Skating (the UK governing body for the sport).

IS-vid operated on a first come first served basis with restricted numbers  due to ensuring the safest possible on-ice experience.

IS-vid aimed to:

  • reduce barriers to participation

  • increase social interaction opportunities

  • improve emotional and physical health and wellbeing

  • promote self-belief, self-worth and self-confidence

IS-vid had the support of the following organisations: RNIB Cymru, SENSE and Disability Sport Wales.

IS-vid skaters provided feedback on the project in general

and on the aims of the project after the first session, the tenth session and

the twentieth session.  Skaters were invited to participate in focus groups to help us evaluate project delivery.

We asked for skaters consent for:

  • evaluation input at week 1, week 10 and week 20

  • evaluation input at the end of project focus groups

  • photography

  • filming

  • image use

  • quotes provided about the project
